“Life can be hard sometimes. No one is expecting you to be the same each and every moment of every day. May you give yourself permission to have a hard time and to be kind to yourself for needing more love when things are hard.”
Bradlee Zrudlo
Welcome to my site, “PhD in Being Me.” The philosophy of this work is that anyone can pursue a “PhD in Being Me.” Empowering others to become highly educated in who they are is my ultimate goal. Getting a “PhD in Being Me” does not require you to go to school in a building or to take online courses. It is more about your willingness to be a student in your own life and to focus on what is most important in your life, you. May this site empower you to be your own educator, principal, administrator and guide at the school of your life. No matter what, you are welcome at this site, you are welcome to explore who you are, judgement and blame free.
This is a place to learn to give yourself permission to be yourself, to learn to speak about your needs, to identify what your needs even are, and to spend time getting to know your sweetie self. There is no right or wrong way to get a “PhD in Being Me”, you get to take the time to truly become an expert in you and what you need in order to heal, grow and thrive.
What works for me
As I continue to grow and evolve, I learn new lessons at the “university of me.” These lessons don’t always apply to every day, but I like to refer back to them to remind me of what I’ve learned and how far I’ve come.
Remembering that life is here to help me inspires me to look for wisdom and teachings in all of my experiences, including having chronic fatigue syndrome and anxiety. I love learning new ways to be a best friend to myself and to truly become an expert at being me, through all the different phases of my life.
My “PhD in Being Me” lessons learned
I recognize that we all have different lessons we need to learn as we work towards getting a PhD in Being Me. I would love to hear what lessons resonate with you and which ones you’re learning as you navigate the waters of your life! Here are some of mine:
- Remembering that I am the only expert on being me
- Recognizing it’s okay to disappoint others while I’m taking care of myself
- Being loving and kind to myself
- Breathing deeply with my hand on my heart several times throughout the day

- Smiling as I’m doing hard things
- Taking Epsom salt baths when I am feeling emotionally and energetically full
- Reading great books that make me feel good
- Connecting with family and friends and sharing deeply
- Recognizing and honoring my boundaries
- Practicing not apologizing for who I am
- Noticing when I am micro-managing myself and choosing to treat myself with dignity and respect instead
- Complimenting and appreciating all that I do and who I am
- Being grateful for the awesomeness in my life and for how far I’ve come
- Sending blessings out loud, in writing or silently for humanity and the pain we are healing
- Trusting myself and giving myself full permission to act on my instincts
- Making time for creativity, including kitchen dancing, writing poetry, blogging, gardening, making collages and other crafts all help me get my passion out and into the world instead of stagnating within me
- Noticing when I’m starting to give up my power and hold it close to my heart and treasure it
- Asking the universe for help
